How to install and configure Sage 100 ERP PDF Converter on Windows 8 and Windows 2012 Servers

February 10, 2014 by Wayne Schulz

Installing the Sage 100 ERP Paperless Office PDF converter to Windows 8 workstations may take a few additional steps if you receive any type of security related error messages or warnings.

The first thing to try is to run Sage 100 ERP as an administrator. Set this by right clicking the Sage 100 ERP shortcut, selecting properties and then the compatibility tab. Within the compatibility tab select “Run this program as administrator”. This option will have to be set for all users who share a single computer.

If security related issues persist you can try this fix which involves a registry edit of the Sage PDF Converter Registry key. Please be sure you have a system backup before making any registry changes. We cannot be responsible for system problems caused by registry edits.

Change permissions for Sage PDF Converter Registry key

  1. Select Start, Run (or Press WINDOWS KEY+R)
  2. Type: REGEDIT
  3. Press ENTER
  4. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG,SOFTWARE
  5. Right-click Sage PDF Converter
  6. Select Permissions
  7. Select Add
  8. Add a User Account or Group the Sage 100 users are members of (i.e. Domain Users)
  9. Select OK
  10. Select Full Control under Allow column
  11. Select Apply
  12. Select OK
  13. Exit Registry

Windows 8.1 Update Breaks Paperless Office – (How To Fix)

October 20, 2013 by Wayne Schulz

One of the members of my 90 Minds group discovered that the Windows 8.1 update on one of his customer’s computers (using Sage 100 ERP v4.4.0.10) appeared to break the ability to use Paperless Office within Sage 100 ERP.

Symptoms include:

“Unable to process the “Lockfile: Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer – [report name]. Processing cancelled”

Solutions:

1. Delete any Jobs and Locks folders from the Sage PDF Converter key in the Windows registry.  – KB Link

2. Turn off locking in PL_AdvancedOptions_UI – (Note: In one instance this reportedly changed the error and required that the third option below be used to fix the issue)  KB LInk

Ultimately the solution to this Windows 8.1 upgrade breaking Sage Paperless Office  issue was:

3. Verify permissions in the Registry on the HKey_Current_Config_Software key. Added full control (Allow) for Everyone/Administrators/Users and Paperless now seems to be working. – KB Link

Adobe PDF Reader Update: Possible Issue With Paperless Office for Sage 100 ERP

May 21, 2013 by Wayne Schulz

Just a heads up for a problem one of my 90 Minds group members encountered today with #Adobe Reader.

Updates released last week on the 14th to level 11.0.3 and 10.1.7 caused problems with #PDF documents created via #PaperlessOfficeon Windows 8 machines.

Example:
Windows 7 machine on 11.0.3 could no longer open any PDF created on a Windows 8 machine.

Windows 8 machine on 10.1.7 could not create any PDF.

Solution was to roll back to a prior release and then turn off automatic updates.

This is #Sage100 Advanced version 4.40.0.10.

Paperless Office Setup Tips: Ports, Lockfiles

June 6, 2012 by Wayne Schulz

When setting up paperless office – set the printer port (typically the install points it to NULL or LPT1) to SAGE.

When setting up paperless office – turn off the use of lock files via:

File
Run
PL_AdvancedOptions_UI

Note: This has to be done for every company as it is COMPANY SPECIFIC

The lock file use is only needed if you happen to be running other non-Sage instances of the Amyuni application running on your system.

If you are making this change AFTER experiencing issues with lock files – you may also have to go into the registry and remove both the jobs and lock files folders.

USE EXTREME CAUTION. We are not responsible for damage resulting from changes to the system registry which render your system unusable or unstable. These are usually steps best performed by an IT professional.

How To Delete Jobs and Locks folders from the Sage PDF Converter key in the Windows registry. It is only necessary to remove these from the location in the Registry specified here:

  1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open field, enter Regedit and click OK.
  3. Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG key using the Plus symbol
  4. Expand the Software Key
  5. Expand the Sage PDF Converter Key
  6. Locate the following folders (if they exist):
  7. Jobs
  8. Locks
  9. Expand the Jobs folder, and delete any subfolders.
  10. Note: Subfolders may prevent the Jobs folder from being deleted.
  11. Delete the Jobs and Locks folders.

For Terminal Server and Multi User Systems:

  1. Go to Devices and Printers in Windows
  2. Remove any “Redirected” Sage PDF Converters. These will normally say something to the effect of Sage PDF Converter (Redirected) or Sage PDF Converter (From Session 9)
  3. Ensure there is only one Sage PDF Converter located in Printers and Faxes, and make sure it is not redirected.
  4. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
  5. In the Open field, enter Regedit and click OK.
  6. Expand the HOTKEY CURRENT CONFIG key using the Plus symbol
  7. Expand the Software Key
  8. Ensure that the Sage PDF Converter key is present and has 39 values associated with it. If there are no values or if there is only one value that shows “REG_SZ”, Uninstall then Reinstall the Sage PDF Converter on the Terminal Server.

Paperless Office Setup with MAS90 v4.30 and Windows 7 – Tip

September 4, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

In most cases Sage ERP MAS90 and MAS200 workstation setup will properly setup your computer for use with the popular Paperless Office feature which allows printing reports and forms to PDF.

However some users have reported issues where installation to Windows 7 computers may be troublesome. They report either issues with the paperless drivers not installing or various registration related errors.

Often we find that logging in and running workstation setup as administrator solves the issue.

In some cases you may find that extra measures such as registry tweaks (as advised by Sage) are required. I just noticed on the Sage Community Forums that someone has come up with an easier way to attempt to resolve pesky Windows 7 Paperless Office issues.

This involves using the MAS version 4.4 install files for paperless – and installing them to your version 4.30 system.

First a warning. We’ve not yet tested this – so you’re on your own if something breaks or is damaged. Make a backup before attempting this solution.

Remember that in most cases you can install Paperless Office straight from the workstation setup — with no need for this workaround. You should only use the below tip if you’ve tried to install paperless, have researched the Sage KB for solutions – and still failed.

Paperless Office Setup – MAS90 4.3 Windows 7 – Workaround
UPDATE: Sage have issued an additional knowledgebase article which seems very comprehensive in the number of tips that it provides. If you are having trouble with Paperless Office hanging on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 please review this Sage KB Article.
