Support for Sage 100 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Ends Today

January 14, 2020 by Wayne Schulz

On January 14, 2020, Microsoft ceased active support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Due to this change, Sage will also stop supporting these platforms for Sage 100 and Sage 100cloud. Users are urged to upgrade to a compatible operating system as outlined in Sage’s Supported Platforms document.

After January 14, 2020, if your PC is running Windows 7, it will no longer receive security updates. Therefore, it’s important that you upgrade to a modern operating system such as Windows 10, which can provide the latest security updates to help keep you and your data safer. In addition, Microsoft customer service will no longer be available to provide Windows 7 technical support. Related services for Windows 7 will also be discontinued over time. For example, certain games such as Internet Backgammon and Internet Checkers as well as Electronic Program Guide for Windows Media Center are scheduled to be discontinued in January 2020.

Your existing Sage 100 and Sage 100cloud system will continue functioning on these platforms however you may have trouble loading Sage patches or obtaining future technical support related to these platforms.

Microsoft expected to patch major Windows security flaw today, and may NOT patch Windows 7

We recommend you upgrade your operating system to a supported level and avoid potential costly interruption in service.

Sage 100cloud Support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Ending January 14, 2020

March 27, 2019 by Wayne Schulz

As previously announced, on January 14, 2020, Microsoft will cease support for both Windows 7 on the desktop and Windows Server 2008 – including R2.

After January 2020 Microsoft will no longer issue security updates for either operating system. Once the official Microsoft support ends so will Sage support for Sage 100cloud running on either operating system (server or desktop).

These operating systems are over 10 years old (Both Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 were released in October 2009) and if your company is using either (or both) the time to upgrade is now.

With the next release of Sage 100cloud due in April 2019, if your operating system is either Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2 then please plan to upgrade your server to become compliant with the latest Microsoft supported operating environments.

Windows 7 users can upgrade to Window 10, provided your workstations meet the Microsoft OS requirements.

Windows Server 2008 R2 users have a slightly different set of options. Many companies have started moving their servers to the cloud. In that case, you typically connect with a hosting company specializing in Sage 100cloud for assistance with the cloud migration.

If you are using Windows Server 2008 R2 and wish to upgrade your server and stay on-premises then Microsoft has this guide to various different options available.

We always advise you adequately plan out your next upgrade so there are no surprises during your next Sage upgrade.

Best Article on Solving Sage ERP MAS90 Paperless Office Printing Problems

October 21, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

I just hung up the phone with a customer whose MAS90 system would no longer print to Paperless Office after upgrading their workstations to Windows 7.

This in my experience is usually solved by:

  • Re-running workstation setup
  • Re-running the PDF Install Program

1. Manually install the Amyuni PDF Converter
– Go to the MAS90\Home folder and run PDFInstall.exe
2. Go into Start Menu | Printer and Faxes | and search for the Amyuni PDF Converter
3. Rename the Amyuni PDF Converter as Sage PDF Converter
4. Go into MAS | File | Run and enter PL_ADVANCEDOPTIONS_UI
5. Install the converter and test the converter to see if it initialized properly

Though I’ve found in some cases nothing you try works.

Luckily I found this article in Sage’s knowledgebase which solved not only this issue but serves as a nice summary of many other potential fixes.

So if you’re having trouble printing to Paperless Office with Windows 7 or Windows 2008 – be sure to try this KB entry from Sage.

Note: Windows 7 is not supported on any version of MAS prior to 4.30.0.18. This KB only applies to versions released since 4.30.0.17. 4.30 versions require Program Fix LM4046-T, as well (make sure all the instructions on the download page for LM4046 are followed exactly). 4.40 versions require at least Product Update 1, with LM4045-T, or Product Update 2 or above without Program Fix LM4045. Please view our Supported Platform Matrix for our most currently supported platform.

On a Windows 7 workstation, MAS 200 clients do not show the icon pictures on the toolbar. Why would this be and how to fix?

September 14, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

Two people in my 90 Minds Consulting Group have run across similar tricky issues wehre the icons on the Sage ERP MAS 200  taskbar disappear. Turns out there’s an easy solution related to font sizes that my friend Jim Woodhead at DSD documented on his site. Here’s the fix.

Paperless Office Setup with MAS90 v4.30 and Windows 7 – Tip

September 4, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

In most cases Sage ERP MAS90 and MAS200 workstation setup will properly setup your computer for use with the popular Paperless Office feature which allows printing reports and forms to PDF.

However some users have reported issues where installation to Windows 7 computers may be troublesome. They report either issues with the paperless drivers not installing or various registration related errors.

Often we find that logging in and running workstation setup as administrator solves the issue.

In some cases you may find that extra measures such as registry tweaks (as advised by Sage) are required. I just noticed on the Sage Community Forums that someone has come up with an easier way to attempt to resolve pesky Windows 7 Paperless Office issues.

This involves using the MAS version 4.4 install files for paperless – and installing them to your version 4.30 system.

First a warning. We’ve not yet tested this – so you’re on your own if something breaks or is damaged. Make a backup before attempting this solution.

Remember that in most cases you can install Paperless Office straight from the workstation setup — with no need for this workaround. You should only use the below tip if you’ve tried to install paperless, have researched the Sage KB for solutions – and still failed.

UPDATE: Sage have issued an additional knowledgebase article which seems very comprehensive in the number of tips that it provides. If you are having trouble with Paperless Office hanging on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 please review this Sage KB Article.
