MAS90 Chat Room Launched

March 29, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

Whether your company is 100 people in size or just one – it can be invaluable to access to a second opinion from those with MAS90 experience.

Starting today we’re dedicating one of our 37 Signals Campfire chat rooms to open MAS 90 and MAS 200 technical talk.

This is NOT a free support avenue. It’s a way for end users and consultants to get and share second opinions or request additional help on tough support problems.

There’s no registration required  (though I would encourage you to send me an email – wayne@s-consult.com and I’ll create a free account for you which will allow you to view prior chat history) — and the group is fully open and public so what you type is seen by anyone else that’s inside the group.

We’ll run this for three or four months and see whether it can be expanded upon or improved. Don’t expect the room to be monitored 24×7 – rather it should be considered a gathering place for MAS 90 support pros to hang out.

When you log into the room – don’t expect  an off-topic rowdy party.

The premise of MAS90 chat is that you leave this room open and on your computer and other users join and leave during the day.

During the majority of the time there may be no activity at all — so stay logged in until others join throughout the day.

If someone has a question they can ask in the room.

If someone can answer a question – and they happen to be logged into chat – they can answer (click below for an example).

If you access the chat room via this link – you won’t have to register or supply a password — however the chat will only display what is occurring while you are logged in. If you would like to view chat history – please email me (wayne@s-consult.com) and I’ll create an account for you.

Remember this is a two or three month experiment. It’s not affiliated, recommended, endorsed or liked by Sage. Use all information and recommendations at your own risk and I strongly advise you consult with your Sage Business Partner prior to implementing any ideas shared in chat.

Alternate Support for Peachtree Customers Impacted By Atlanta Storm

January 10, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

Sage Peachtree Atlanta is advising customers on January 10, 2011 that they’re officially “snowed in”.

That means for safety’s sake the customer support department for Sage Peachtree is working from their homes as opposed to chancing the snow and ice that’s surrounding the greater Atlanta area.

As an alternate means of support – Peachtree users can also access the Sage knowledgease – Sage Peachtree knowledgebase.

Here’s the announcement posted on the Sage site:

As many of you may have heard, the southeast was hammered last night with 4-6 inches of snow. The precipitation is continuing throughout the day today as a wintery mix of snow and ice. As a result of the treacherous conditions, we made a decision to close down our physical office to ensure the safety of our employees. We are attempting to minimize the impact this situation is having on our customers but our reduced capacity will obviously limit the number of customers we can effectively support and service.

In an effort to keep you informed, I thought I would let you know how we are operating during this time. If you call our support line you will be asked to send us an e-mail with your contact information and description of problem. Our support staff will be working at a limited capacity from home calling back customers who reach out via e-mail. We have shut down the sales department and we are directing all customers to Peachtree.com where you can purchase upgrades, tax service, etc. Our sales representatives are actually assisting support by calling out to customers that were unable to reach us and working proactively to schedule a call-back with a support representative.

At this point in time we don’t know when we will be able to resume normal operations. Given the current forecast, there is a good chance we will be operating in this mode through Wednesday but we will continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis. In the interim, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. If you are having problems reaching us, remember there are other support resources available to you such as the online knowledgebase, Year End Center located on Peachtree.com, and this community (where you can receive assistance from our entire ecosystem which includes partners, other customers, etc.). If you chose to leave us a message we will get back with you as soon as we possibly can.

On a more personal note, if you are or will be in the path of this large winter storm please take precautions and be safe. Not sure where you live but if it’s any place like Atlanta, it’s likely that your area is not used to this type of weather and, as a result, would find it challenging to quickly respond to the situation.

Sage MAS Community Forums Latest New Posts

October 19, 2010 by Wayne Schulz

Did you know that Sage has an online community where both consultants and end users can ask questions, share answers and mingle?

If you haven’t checked it out – you should register for a free login name. You do not have to be a Sage ERP MAS 90 or MAS 200 user to obtain a name. Some of the brightest minds — both users and consultants — regularly visit to ask and answer technical questions.

One link that I have saved on my toolbar is below.

When clicked it will take you directly to a list of new messages posted for the day – no login is required. It’s an easy way to keep an eye on what users are talking about with regards to a new Sage ERP MAS 90 or MAS 200 release.

If you use an RSS reader you can even connect to the site via this link (rss feed) so that can view new topics in your favorite RSS reader (I recommend Google Reader).

How to create fiscal years and calendar years in Sage MAS 90 and 200

December 30, 2009 by Wayne Schulz

Has this happened to you? You aren’t quite ready to close the year in MAS90 or MAS200 but you would like to start entering transactions in the next fiscal or calendar year.

In most situations you can enter future transactions without encountering problems either in General Ledger or another module (provided of course that you have allowed for this in your security preferences).

Where you may run into an issue is printing reports.

If you have not formally created the new fiscal year in MAS 90 or MAS 200’s General Ledger when you go to print a report for the future year you will be unable to select that period as it has yet to be create in the fiscal period file (even though there are transactions posted against it).

The solution?

A. Close the year in MAS 90 General Ledger

or (more likely solution)

B. Create the fiscal period in General Ledger – Setup – Fiscal Year Maintenance by entering in the new fiscal year. Allow MAS 90 or MAS 200 to populate the periods and accept the new year.

Now you will be able to select that year as an option in report printing.

Schulz Consulting providing MAS 90 and MAS 200 support and collaboration via Google Wave

October 14, 2009 by Wayne Schulz

mas90 sage google wave supportSchulz Consulting is now active on the new Google Wave service that’s presently in a limited preview release.

Google Wave is the next step beyond email. It allows for real time group conversations where every participant can view a complete history of the discussions. Simple email exchanges often omit large parts of conversations to anyone not on the email distribution list.

Future uses of Google Wave may involve collaborating on workarounds for software issues, real time seminars where participants can comment and add to the topics as well as technical support tracking where more than one company contact could have access to a complete history of the items that have been discussed.

Because Google Wave is in a limited testing preview you must first request an invitation from Google to participate (request).

If you are already on Google Wave you may connect to Wayne Schulz via wayneschulzct@googlewave.com
