3 Tips For Saving Money On Your Sage Payments Account

June 13, 2012 by Wayne Schulz

Here are some ways existing users may be able to reduce (or eliminate) some recurring Sage Payment Standard Fees:

PCI Compliance – $25/mo recurring – can be waived if you test yourself at https://pci.trustwave.com/action.php though there is a $75 annual fee for a Trustwave scan which is now billed in June per Sage Payments posting here

http://www.sagepayments.com/Compliance/~/media/Category/Payment%20Solutions/Assets/Documents/PDFs/Payment_Card_Industry_Changes.pdf

New Chargeback Assistance Program – $3.95/mo – web site leads you to believe it’s optional (and some at Sage say that it’s an opt-in program) though a call to Sage Payments by one of our 90 Minds members led to a response from someone at SPS saying that it’s mandatory. They were able to get the fee reduced to $1.50/mo after  complaining (this was reported by only one of our members – so your mileage may vary in convincing Sage to reduce your fees or Sage may come back eventually and reply to us that the SPS representative was mistaken – we have an inquiry into Sage Payments about this matter).

Rate review – Sage Payments doesn’t come out and tell you this but you can ask them to review your rates at any time. Since credit card processing is a highly competitive area – it’s probably not a bad idea to shop this every 6 months if you are doing a fair volume of monthly charges.

Other items worth noting:

Sage Moving Sage 100 ERP To Sage Exchange – Expected V5.0 – read the latest FAQ about Sage Exchange and credit card processing.

Beginning with Sage 100 ERP 5.0 Sage will use Sage Exchange technology and PC Charge will not be supported (Sage will only support the ERP side – though this has been our experience for at least the last two years as Sage has forwarded all PC Charger users’ processing related tech calls to the PC Charge support lines)

http://na.sage.com/sage-payment-solutions/products-services/sage-exchange

With Sage Exchange credit card data formerly stored inside Sage 100 ERP will now be stored in your “Sage Vault”. Once payment data is out of Sage 100 ERP then reportedly Sage will no longer be required to undergo expensive PCI compliance audits with each software release.

This foregoing of compliance audits is a touchy subject with Sage since technically it means the Sage 100 ERP software hasn’t undergone any PCI compliant audits to which Sage have responded that with the use of Sage Exchange (ie – storing all payment data outside the software) they are not required to be compliant or undergo a PCI compliance audit.

All of the above is likely true (Sage is a big company and I’m sure they’ve checked and double checked this with their legal eagles).

Recommendations

Without PCI audits (performed at the direction of Sage- due to stop with v5.0 aka Sage 100 ERP 2013) you can’t store any credit card info within Sage 100 and be considered PCI compliant (Note: Yes I know you can – and people do – create UDF fields and some customers demand it – good luck avoiding legal liability in the event of data breach either internal or external).

Do not store any credit card data within modified Sage 100 ERP fields –  memos, UDF, etc. To do so may put your company at risk in the case of a data breach.

We recommend Sage Payments coupled with a frequent review (as you would for any credit card merchant) of your statements to insure that you receive the lowest possible processing fees. The integration to Sage 100 ERP is slick, easy to setup (and upgrade) and seldom prevents any type of errors (which was most definitely not our experience with other third party credit card integrations).

Credit card unauthorized/authorization expired. Unable to ship this order

February 25, 2012 by Wayne Schulz

If you use Sales Order entry on version 4.40 or 4.50 and have tried to ship and order where a deposit was paid by credit card that did not have a pre-authorization then you may have run into an issue where the screen hangs in shipping data entry.

The message “Credit card unauthorized/authorization expired. Unable to ship this order” is displayed and you are forced to exit from the shipping data entry screen.

Sage have issued a fix for this issue and you can download it from the following link:

Version 4.50.2.0

PC Charge / VeriFone Integration With Sage ERP MAS90,200 Version 5.0 – Update

October 18, 2011 by Wayne Schulz

Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200 5.0 will contain a new integration with Sage Exchange. Sage Payment Solutions created this integration to streamline credit card processing across the entire Sage product portfolio. As part of this implementation, credit card numbers will no longer be stored within Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200. Instead they will be stored in the Sage Exchange Vault.

With the introduction of Sage Exchange in Version 5.0, the integration to PC Charge Payment Server will no longer function because it requires that credit card numbers be stored within the ERP system.

Sage Payment Solutions will be the only supported credit card processor for the Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200 product line.

In anticipation of the version 5.0 release, please note the following:

  • Effective November 1, 2011, Sage will no longer offer the Credit Card Processing powered by PC Charge Payment Server module for new customer sales.
  • For existing customers who wish to continue using PC Charge until their existing credit card processing provider contract expires, supported versions of Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200 will continue to work with PC Charge. This includes version 4.5.
  • PC Charge version 5.9.3 will be the last version tested by Sage for compatibility with Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200. While subsequent versions of PC Charge may continue to work, they will not be validated as compatible by Sage.
  • As has always been the case, requests for customer assistance for PC Charge should be directed to VeriFone. If a customer purchased PC Charge from Sage within the last 12 months, their purchase included an initial 12 months of VeriFone technical support. If they purchased PC Charge over a year ago, they will need to renew their support agreement directly with VeriFone. VeriFone offers two support plans:
  • Telephone support plus software maintenance: $229 annual fee
  • Telephone support only: $139 annual fee. If this plan is selected, there is a $120 fee per upgrade for any subsequent releases of PC Charge.
  • Customers should contact Lela Reeves at VeriFone by telephone at: 912-527-4576 or by email at: Lela_Reeves@verifone.com to renew their PC Charge support agreement if necessary.
  • Sage will discontinue telephone support for all versions of the Credit Card Processing powered by PC Charge Payment Server module as of December 31, 2012. Until then, Sage will continue to provide telephone support for the Credit Card Processing powered by PC Charge module, while VeriFone must be contacted for any support for the PC Charge Payment Server application.

Sage Payment Services Receives Final PCI-DSS Certification Paperwork

September 15, 2010 by Wayne Schulz

Sage Payment Services had officially completed all their credit card compliance testing well in advance of the July 1, 2010 deadline for the software to be certified. However due to backlogs in processing paperwork the final certification documents had been pending.

Here is the latest certification – as of 9/4/2010 – showing Sage Payments as PCI-DSS compliance. If needed print the following and provide it to anyone requesting proof that your Sage Payment Services credit card processing is PCI-DSS compliant.

Sage Posts Updated PA-DSS Credit Card Implementation Guide for MAS 90 & MAS 200

March 30, 2010 by Wayne Schulz

Sage has just updated their 27 page PA-DSS Credit Card Processing Guide. As scheduled, Sage released updates to version 4.3 and 4.4 of Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 which bring both products up to compliance when the rules in their guide are followed.

From the guide:

The purpose of this PA-DSS Implementation Guide is to instruct merchants, resellers and integrators on how to implement Sage MAS 90 and 200 ERP and Sage MAS 90 and 200 Extended Enterprise Suite into their environment in a PA-DSS compliant manner. It is not intended to be a complete installation guide. The software, if installed according to the guidelines documented here, should facilitate and support a merchant’s PCI compliance. This guide applies to Sage MAS 90 and 200 ERP and Sage MAS 90 and 200 Extended Enterprise Suite as released by Sage. Any modifications to the application, for example Customizer, Web Services, Extended Solutions and other Master Developer enhancements, must be reviewed to determine their impact to the PA-DSS requirements.

The Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) is a set of security standards that were created by the PCI SSC to guide payment application vendors to implement secure payment applications.
