You may have tried recently to download the latest FRX service pack 11 from Sage. Unfortunately as of January 31, 2011 Sage is no longer able to distribute service packs due to Microsoft (who publishes FRX) discontinuing sales of FRX (support however extends to December 2012).

What’s New In The Latest MAS90 – MAS200 Upgrade or Product Update?

One of the frequent questions that users of MAS90 and MAS200 will have prior to upgrading is “what’s changed?”. It’s a pretty common — and smart — question that you’ll want the answer to prior to installing either a major upgrade (moving up a point or full version) or a product update.

Major upgrades are considered to be any that move you up a version of the software. For example moving from MAS90 3.71 to 4.40 would be a major upgrade since during the move you also have pretty significant changes to General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Sales Order, Inventory, RMA, Purchase Order and Bank Reconciliation.

Once you reach level 4.40 then the upgrades will start to be intermingled with what Sage terms Product Updates.

In theory these Product Updates are user installable collections of both product fixes and new features. Presently Sage have released three product updates for MAS90 4.4 (Product Update or PU 1,2,3).

Curious about what’s been added in each version of these upgrades or updates? Sage embeds a web link within the latest version of MAS90 4.4. However if you’ve not yet installed the upgrade then you may have some trouble locating the link to answer your “what’s new” questions.

MAS 90 & MAS 200 v4.4 Product Update 1 Disappears (again)

We continue to monitor the Sage MAS90 & 200 v4.4 release in an effort to determine exactly when to recommend installing the upgrade to our clients and newsletter subscribers.

Update: 4-22-2010 – Sage has made the update available

A key feature of MAS 90 & MAS 200 v4.4 as promoted by Sage is the concept of regular product updates.

Unlike the prior practice of issuing periodic (first monthly then ultimately quarterly) bug fixes service updates, Sage intends to issue regular product updates that provide not only program fixes but also add new functionality (see the MAS 90 roadmap for exactly what to expect and when).

One of the eagle eyed Sage consultants in my 90Minds group spotted that the latest MAS 90 & MAS 200 v4.4 Product Update 1 as well as the MAS 90 and MAS 200 version 4.3 service update 18 have again been removed by Sage.

Readers of our web site will recall that we’d previously noted that Product Update 1 (and service update 18) were removed on April 2 before ultimately being reinstated.

From what we understand from our group member, the primary reason for removal of both the product and service update might revolve around credit card issues.

Our understanding, based on Sage communication with other business partners, about product update 1 and service update 18 is that part of the changes to both updates involve PCI-DSS compliance changes. Sage has recently completed an audit of their software to meet the new credit card processing rules effective July 1, 2010 and we believe were using the latest updates to ensure compliance.

Service Update 17 for Sage MAS 90 and 200 4.30 (4.30.17) released 12/24/09

Sage issued Service Update 17 for MAS 90 and MAS 200 on Christmas Eve. This new update for version 4.3 includes fixes for the 1099 Electronic Reporting module required by IRS Publication 1220.

Service Updates are cumulative fixes which do not rely upon prior updates being installed. Be sure that you consider any existing enhancements that are installed on your system PRIOR to installing these updates (Review our list of MAS90 Extended Solutions that need to be upgraded when you load Service Update 17). In certain instances installing a service update may “break” custom programming so please use caution when installing over any enhancements and  always check with your Sage Business Partner prior to installing updates such as this.

Users of earlier versions of Sage MAS 90 or MAS 200 will need to download the Interim Release Disk (IRD) in order to resolve any last minute payroll issues as there has not been an updated service update for any release earlier than 4.3.

Payroll Updates
New In Service Update 4.30.0.17
New local Aatrix Tax Types have been added.

A Direct Deposit stubs no longer prints when employee is setup for Electronic Delivery.

Employee W2 Box 14 amounts automatically populate when using eFiling & Reporting. Note:
Before printing W-2 forms, ensure that the desired description appears in the Box 14 column in the State/Federal eFiling and Reporting W2/1099 Preparer window.

In W2 Form Printing a new field FLI Private Plan No. has been added and only available when the State Data check box is selected.

A line for the FLI Private Plan No and Description has been added to the W2 Form Detail for W2 Form Types Laser 2 per page, Single Wide and Laser 4 per page.

NOTE: The FLI private plan number prints only for the state of New Jersey.

Note: If the new the new FLI Private Plan No line is not present on the W2 Form Detail select:
File/Run
Type in SYZCON
Type in run “PRWX04”
Click Yes to Prompt to add the Family Leave Insurance to the W2 forms.

2009 W2 and other End of Year changes (2009 IRD) are incorporated into this release.

Bill of Materials Updates

New In Service Update 4.30.0.17
The Inventory Merge Utility will now abort the merge when the items are a parent item for a Bill of Material.

If a item merge has been performed before this service update, there is also included a new utility to remove duplicate components when BM Options Allow Duplicate Components = No.

Before running tne utility, use Library Master Analyze and Relink for the BM Detail table and then Rebuild Sorts for Bill of Materials.

To run the utility, in MAS90/200, choose File/Run and type *Utl. Choose from the list the BM – Duplicate Component Fix.

Note: Once the Utility has been removed the duplicate components, Analyze and Relink and
Rebuild Sorts must run again.

Inventory Management Updates
New In Service Update 4.30.0.17
In Delete/Renumber/Merge, the Extended Description check box can now be selected.

Material Requirements Planning Updates
New In Service Update 4.30.0.17
The Maximum On Hand quantity is now recognized when the Reorder Method is set toMaximum Stock Level.

The MRP report will now calculate the Projected On Hand column when a work order is created for the component item on a bill instead of the parent item.

Service Update 14 replaced with new version that restores Paperless Office features

Did you update and apply the MAS 90 or MAS 200 Service Update 14 released on 9/29/09? If you did, and you’re a Paperless Office user, then run and grab the latest service update.

Confusingly named with the same version (SU 14) but released on 10/2/09 this fix to the fix re-enables printing of paperless office forms.

Apparently the latest 10/2 fix corrects an issue (Resolution ID 514877 Details Here) where the original SU14 caused all forms in the business framework to print as blanks if they were sent to paperless.
