Have You PCI Complied? Simple One Step That May Remove $25/mo Non-Compliance Fees

One of the members of my 90 Minds Group had a great recommendation yesterday.

His customer was reviewing the annual charges for credit card processing when he noticed a monthly $25 fee for non-compliance with PCI requirements. Upon questioning Sage

Payment Services, this is the response that they received:
I noticed you are paying a $25 Non Compliance fee each month. In order to remove this, please go to: https://pci.trustwave.com/action.php to obtain your PCI DSS certification. Once you are certified, we will be automatically notified, and the $25 monthly fee will stop. If you have any PCI questions or need help navigating through that site, please call our 24 hour help desk at 800-239-2468.

Recommendation:

If you are using Sage Payments for processing of credit card and other payments – check your statement. If you are receiving a $25/mo fee for non-compliance – be sure to visit the link above to self-assess and possibly remove that fee.

Sage Payments Renewal Email: It’s A Fake – Don’t Click That Link

Several partners have advised that at least some of their customers received an email claiming to be from Sage Payments which instructed the recipient to login online to renew their SPS account.

This was a bogus email and customers should be instructed to disregard it. It appears that Sage may have sent out a notice to at least some partners a few days ago advising them of the fake email.

Here’s a partial copy of the text within the email.

Subject: Annual Agreement Update – Sage Payments

Dear Sage Payments customer, you need to renew your annual agreement
with Sage. Failure to do so will result with your account status set to
-INACTIVE-, only test transactions will be possible. Download your
personal login page from this email and continue.

Credit Card Swiping Slated To Arrive for MAS90 and MAS200 with Sage Exchange

One of the most requested credit card processing enhancements has been the use of swipers for reading encoded data from from credit cards.

As you probably know the fee credit card processors charge for a card which has been swiped is less than one which has been manually keyed in. The reasoning behind this being that a swiped card has a higher level of security and thus less likelihood for fraud.

Credit card swiping integration is scheduled to arrive late 2012 with the use of Sage Exchange as the credit card processing solution. Sage Exchange is a cloud based integration which off-loads the processing of credit card transactions from software by linking in the authorization remotely.

In addition expect integrations between portable credit card swipers used on smartphones such as iPhone, Android or Blackberry.

Sage Exchange is the integration platform for credit card processing being used by all of Sage’s North America products. The product will completely replace PC Charge as well as the Sage credit card processing module. Instead all card data will be uploaded to Sage Exchange where it will be securely stored. Transactions will be processed between the MAS90 software and Sage Exhange – which removes the need to continually certify Sage upgrades as PCI compliant.

Sage Mobile Payments Offers Mobile Credit Card Swipe For 400 Devices

Sage Payment Solutions announces Sage Mobile Payments with integrated secure credit card reader. This service adds to the already announced Sage Mobile Payments by integrating secure credit card reader capabilities.

The reader works on over 400 different devices including iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.

From Sage:

Sage Mobile Payments launches February 2011 and will offer small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) a low monthly fee, absolutely no incremental processing fees and an optional highly secure card reader that plugs into a mobile device’s audio jack. End-to-end encryption from the card reader device to the application is now a requirement in the business community, and Sage Mobile is leading the way in meeting that demand.

While other vendors are fighting it out over no monthly fees but very high processing fees, Sage Mobile is saying no to marking up processing fees, which is the right thing to do for SMB customers that process a lot of volume.

Sage is focused on a reasonable monthly fee and no additional markup on processing fees which is much more cost effective for the SMB customer. SMBs need to look at the total cost of ownership. For example, competing mobile payment solutions can add 1% plus an additional .15 to .37 cents to the processing fees, which is well over $130 in extra fees for every $10,000 in credit card volume.

Sage is also helping SMBs increase sales via mobile payments while providing efficiencies by connecting Sage Mobile Payments and other point-of-sale (POS) terminals to Sage Exchange, Sage’s new integrated payments platform that automatically posts payments data in Sage’s accounting and ERP solutions and other third party software partners that are connected to Sage Exchange.
