Crystal Reports Schedulers for Sage 100cloud

October 15, 2020 by Wayne Schulz

One of the questions that we’re often asked surrounds how to automatically extract data from Sage 100 / Sage 100cloud on a regular basis without needing to manually run a program or report.

While there are a few ways to do this ( Visual Integrator, ODBC ), the typical way many consultants approach this is with Crystal Reports.

Crystal Reports is a report writer included with Sage 100 and the starting point they use for creating a report which can export data.

However, standard Crystal Reports usually rely on someone manually starting the report and running it on a regular basis.

Thankfully, there are numerous scheduling tools that work to automatically run a Crystal Reports at a preset time on a regular schedule.

In some cases you also use Windows Task scheduler to create the automation. The degree with which you manually create this task schedule varies based on the product used.

The two products that I’ve used the most are Visual Cut and Logicity. Both are affordable ( under $500 ) and support most of the recent versions of Crystal Reports.

The website Crystal Reports Underground has a review of both desktop and server-based scheduler programs.

Desktop Crystal Report scheduling tools reviewed include:

  • Crystal Delivery by Groff Automation
  • Smart Report Organizer 2018 by DataZimmerman
  • Logicity Pro by Saber Logic
  • Report Commander by Arcana Development
  • cViewMANAGER by Chelsea Technologies
  • Softline Crystal Scheduler by Softline Solutions France
  • R-Tag Crystal Scheduler Light by R-Tag
  • Visual CUT by Millet Software

Server Crystal Report Scheduling tools reviewed include:

  • ReportServer by InfoFabrik GmbH
  • R-Tag Crystal Scheduler by R-Tag:
  • Navarre Report Scheduler by PCS Programming
  • cViewSERVER by Chelsea Technologies
  • CrystalKiwi Scheduler by CrystalKiwi Ltd
  • Softline Crystal Scheduler by Softline Solutions France
  • Liaison Messenger EDD by Liaison Software Corp
  • rePORTAL SCR by rePORTAL Software
  • Report Runner Batch Enterprise by Jeff-Net

The next time you are wondering if there is a better way to automatically run a Crystal Report at a preset time – consider using one of the report schedulers reviewed above. And remember that Crystal Reports can be set to print a report as well as export data which can be handy if paired up with an FTP service scheduled to automatically upload a file on a set schedule.

Midyear Sales Tax Update from Avalara

June 24, 2020 by Wayne Schulz

Join Avalara on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, for a 90-minute update on the latest sales tax trends and regulations. This webinar is free for all users and contains handouts with links to the latest sales tax and marketplace rules by state. ( Register Here )

If you’re worried that you may not be charging the appropriate sales tax or are considering expanding your sales online then this is an educational event you will not want to miss.

Avalara interfaces directly to Sage 100cloud accounting. It automatically computes sales tax based on the ship-to location and the type of product shipped.

While Sage 100cloud allows for creating your own sales tax codes and tracking tax manually the reality is that states are changing their rules so frequently that it might not make sense to manually track sales tax.

As of June 2020, there are only 5 states with no sales tax ( Avalara terms them as NOMAD states after the first letter of each state name ).

States continue to change rules for those who are required to charge tax ( aka Nexus ) for sales made into their states even when a company making the sale doesn’t have a traditional presence/office.

Join Avalara on June 30, 2020 for an update on sales tax for 2020 by registering here.

The agenda is listed as:

What you need to know about the new tax rules going into effect

2019 brought dramatic changes in sales and use tax rules: 43 states adopted economic nexus laws, requiring out-of-state sellers to collect sales tax, and 36 of those states also enforced marketplace facilitator laws. Businesses of all sizes have had to scramble to keep up with changing tax liabilities, and it’s not expected to slow down.

As 2020 nears, now’s the time to prepare for even more sales tax changes to go into effect.

Attend this webcast as our strategic partner, Avalara, will again provide in depth insight to arm you with knowledge on the biggest sales tax changes that went into effect in 2019 and what changes you can expect in 2020.

Scott Peterson, Vice President of U.S. Tax Policy and Government Relations for Avalara, will cover:

  • The current state of sales and use tax in the U.S.
  • Which states have enacted economic nexus, and what’s expected to change in 2020.
  • New requirements for marketplace sellers (Amazon, Etsy, etc.)
  • A look at cross-border ecommerce and what international sellers must know about sales tax.

State Sales Tax Guides for North America 2019-2020

November 25, 2019 by Wayne Schulz

Sales tax service provider Avalara has created a comprehensive website showing sales tax rules for each state in the United States.

You’ll notice some states are omitted, such as Delaware, Montana, Oregon, and New Hampshire. A fifth, Alaska, has no state-level sales tax but allows municipalities to impose the retail-level tax.

Sales Tax Quick Reference

There is also a quick reference download available for each state charging sales tax. This guide would be handy for distributing to accounting staff for a quick overview of filing dates and requirements.

Sage 100 Integrated Sales Tax

Users of Sage 100 and Sage 100cloud also have the option of incorporating sales tax processing directly into their Sage 100 system. The Avalara integration replaces the manually created sales tax codes and will compute and file sales tax returns to most states on your behalf.

Streamlined Sales Tax ( SST )

If you are making sales in multiple states and aren’t yet registered – here’s an additional option Avalara offers called Streamlined Sales Tax ( info below via their website ) .

Created in 1999, the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement is the result of a cooperative effort between state and local governments and the business community. The goal of SST is to simplify sales and use tax collection and administration for all sellers and all types of commerce by making sales tax administration requirements less burdensome. Participating states must simplify and centralize aspects of sales tax administration. For some companies, SST offers critical tools to help address ever-changing sales tax regulations. For others, the benefits of SST are less obvious.

The active members of SST are: Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania,* Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
