Sage 100 versions 2015 and 2016 are the only two releases Sage have indicated will be deemed officially Windows 10 compatible.  In order to remain compatible with Windows 10, you’ll either want to be on the latest Sage 100 release or stop the installation of Windows 10 until you are ready for the OS upgrade.

Microsoft has come under fire for what seems like aggressive upgrade tactics. They’ve published a knowledgebase article here that instructs you on how to manually configure a computer so that Windows 10 updates are not automatically installed.

If you’re not interested in upgrading to Windows 10 automatically and want to make sure that you don’t fall prey to Microsoft’s “sneak attack” auto-upgrade ( http://goo.gl/A8UmFh ) and don’t want to wade through Microsoft’s technical steps to defer this upgrade then take a look at this utility from GRC called Never 10.

What Never 10 does is makes a few minor alterations to your computer so that the auto update of Windows 10 won’t occur.

In July of 2015, responding to the significant user backlash, Microsoft added features to its Windows Update facility which allow it to be configured, on a machine-by-machine basis, to not forcibly upgrade qualifying Windows 7 and 8.1 operating systems to Windows 10.

However, Microsoft did not make this configuration simple. It requires the use of the group policy editor (which is not present in some qualifying systems) and/or the system registry. In other words, they created some deep internal configuration options but chose not to provide a simple user-interface to give their users the choice. “Never10” provides that choice.

The elegance of this “Never 10” utility, is that it does not
install ANY software of its own. It simply and quickly
performs the required system editing for its user.

 

When printing through Windows 10 you may notice that the Windows default printer keeps changing to the last printer used by Sage 100.

This is due to the way Windows 10 manages default printers.

In previous versions of Windows your default printer never changed and if you were needing to use a different printer in a new location for a short period of time it always meant re-selecting it for each print job.

Now, in the November Update for Windows 10, you can allow Windows to manage your default printer so that the last printer you used will come up as your default for printing jobs.

 

 

In order to stop this behavior, follow these steps:

1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Click Settings
3. Click Devices & Printers
4. Scroll down past the list of printers and devices.
5. Change Let Windows manager my default printer to Off
6. Right-click the appropriate printer and select Set as default printer
7. Verify that the default setting does not change when printing to another printer
