How To Remove A LinkedIn Connection

January 2, 2013 by Wayne Schulz

linkedin remove connection

Have you ever accepted a LinkedIn connection only to later be sorry? Usually the problem is that your connection mistakes social media connection acceptance as an open invitation to sell you on an endless variety of business schemes.

Luckily there’s a way to break this connection and stop the sales pitches. Best of all your connection is never notified that you’ve disconnected.

How To Disconnect From A Contact In LinkedIN

  1. Login to your LinkedIn account
  2. Click Contacts at the top menu bar
  3. Click “Remove Connections”

How To Filter Your LinkedIn Feed To Remove Connection Messages

August 31, 2012 by Wayne Schulz

I was staring at all the “Billy Bob is now connected to Suzy Smiley” notifications in my main LinkedIn feed and thinking how incredibly dumb it is that I would want to see those connections.

To me endless “connected to” messages are of fairly limited value though I guess if you’re playing the power networking game you may want to waste time browsing through that info.

Instead I thought to myself – I wonder if you can shut this useless information off — and just see the status updates that contacts post.

Well you can — and surprise it’s very easy.

Simply click on the “All Updates” and select “Customize” (see image above).

Then select which updates you wish to view in your LinkedIn feed.

Problem solved.

Use IFTTT To Build A Personal List of Sage Summit Active Twitter Users

July 6, 2012 by Wayne Schulz

I’ve written before about a very cool online service called IFTT. It is especially useful for anyone active in social media looking to streamline some of the postings that they routinely make to sites like Twitter and Facebook.

The name IFTT stands for “If This Then That” and the concept is so simple – yet powerful. The service sits silently awaiting a specific user defined “IF” to happen – and when it does an action is triggered.

One example may be to setup an IFTT to monitor a web RSS feed for changes and automatically post a link to your Facebook or Twitter when it occurs.

These actions can post to many different locations – and one thing that I’ve done in advance of the Sage Summit conference in August 2012 is create an action that:

  1. Scans all tweets for the hashtag #SAGESUMMIT – which is the shorthand way people indicate a Twitter message is related to a specific topic – in this case the Sage annual Summit conference
  2. When it finds such a hashtag – it adds the sender to a Twitter List (here’s my 130+ user Summit Chatter Twitter list that is constantly updated – even as I sleep).
  3. Using that Twitter list you can then monitor the more active Twitter users as Sage Summit nears.

Here’s what the list looks like as of now:

This free service runs completely “in the cloud” and allows you to create as many “recipes” as you like which can significantly save you time in managing your various social media tasks.

Sage Summit 2012 Social Media: All You Need To Know

June 26, 2012 by Wayne Schulz

Sage Summit 2012 is scheduled for Nashville TN August 12-17, 2012. As with prior years a big part of the value that youll take away from the conference will be interacting with other participants.

However if you arent all that familiar with Social Media you may struggle to understand the various ways the to connect.

Theres a Sage Summit Facebook Group for private discussion, a Twitter account for official tweets and YouTube for videos.

Where is the best place to visit if you dont have time to create multiple social media accounts?

We suggest that if you can only pick one tool – use Twitter.

This online short messaging service is perhaps the most popular communications tool during conferences. The secret to finding highly relevant content is to search for the official hash tag for Sage Summit – #Sagesummit.

Hashtags are special abbreviations which users place into their messages to categorize the content. Searching for the hashtag #sagesummit will filter out your Twitter feed and show only the active messages being broadcast during the conference.

Below is an image of what your filtered search for #Sagesummit will look like via the http://www.twitter.com site.

All mobile Twitter clients allow you to perform similar searches.
