Is Sage 100 Compatible with Windows 11?

September 15, 2021 by Wayne Schulz

Sage Engineering has confirmed the following versions of Sage 100 are compatible with Windows 11 and Server 2022:

Sage 100 2021.2 (7.00.2.0)
Sage 100 2020.4 (6.20.4.0)
Sage 100 2019.5 (6.10.5.0)

Prior versions of Sage 100 have not been tested with Windows 11 since they are retired and will not be supported with Windows 11.

All future versions will also support Windows 11, as well as Server 2022

On January 11, 2022, Sage issued new versions of their supported platforms matrices ( SPM ). These guides outline which operating system configurations are officially supported for use by Sage 100. According. All three supported versions of Sage are now officially deemed compatible with Windows 11.

Sage 100 2022, targeted for release in March/April 2022, will also be compatible with Professional and Enterprise versions of Windows 11.

What If My Version Of Sage 100 Isn’t Officially Compatible With Windows 11?

No versions prior to 2019 were tested for Windows 11 compatibility. Even though older Sage 100 versions won’t get an official compatibility document it doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t work with Windows 11. Prior to fully upgrading to Windows 11, if your Sage 100 version is older than 2019 you may wish to test compatibility on a separate server or workstation.

For practical purposes, we are not expecting technical compatibility issues. Until Windows 11 is tested by more Sage users we cannot say for certain whether there will be updates required to older versions of Sage 100.

Sage currently supports 3 versions of their Sage 100 product. As of this writing versions 2019, 2020, and 2021 are all supported by Sage.

What’s New In Windows 11?

Microsoft has a blog post ( full version here ) where they describe the new Windows 11 main features:

We’ve simplified the design and user experience to empower your productivity and inspire your creativity. It’s modern, fresh, clean, and beautiful. From the new Start button and taskbar to each sound, font, and icon, everything was done intentionally to put you in control and bring a sense of calm and ease. We put Start at the center and made it easier to quickly find what you need. Start utilizes the power of the cloud and Microsoft 365 to show you your recent files no matter what platform or device you were viewing them on earlier, even if it was on an Android or iOS device.

Should I Upgrade to The Current Sage 100 Version To Ensure Windows Compatibility?

We are big advocates of staying on the most recent version of Sage 100 wherever possible. If you are using third-party enhancements to your Sage 100 you’ll need to ensure they are ready for the upgrade prior to installing the latest version of Sage 100.

Many users wait until the first product update of a new release prior to considering an upgrade. Whether you should wait or not is more a question of the number of third-party enhancements installed to your system. As a rule of thumb the fewer enhancements the faster we would move to upgrade.

Where Can I Find A List of New Features in Sage 100 Prior To Making A Decision to Upgrade?

You may wish to review a listing of the enhancements added to the next release of Sage prior to upgrading. Sage provides a Customer Upgrade Guide which provides a summary of what’s new in each release.

Sage has moved their Sage 100 upgrade guides online making it even easier to view the latest features before deciding whether to upgrade.

In summary, staying up-to-date with Sage is the best way to ensure your accounting system is compatible with the latest Windows versions as they are released. By remaining current, you’ll also be eligible for product updates which might be issued to correct program issues during the year.
